Old Library Membership

LIBRARY MEMBERSHIP
Book borrowing is based on an annual subscription system. Borrowers must be fully paid up members of the library to borrow books. The annual subscription charge entitles a member to borrow up to eight books at a time for a period of up to four weeks.

No rental charges are levied on books borrowed from the Library. However, books must be returned by the due date. Fines will be imposed for books which are returned after the due date.

JOINING FEE AND ANNUAL SUBSCRIPTION [AED]

A joining fee is charged on joining the Library to cover administrative costs. On joining the Library and on payment of the annual subscription fee a membership card is issued. This must be presented to borrow books.

An Annual Subscription Fee entitles members to use the Library for the period of one year. The Annual Subscription fee is renewable annually from the date of joining.

RENEWALS

Due to the high turnover of books and waiting lists for popular books renewals are restricted and must be done in person at the Library.

No telephone renewals will be accepted.

Renewals are not permitted if a book has been reserved.

ONE renewal period per book is permitted.

No further renewal/reissue of the same book is permitted for the next 7 days.

RESERVATIONS

Books which are out on loan at any given time may be reserved by members.

Books which are on the shelf cannot be reserved.

Members may reserve a maximum of two books at a time.

Reservations will not be allowed if a member has books overdue by 7 days or more.

CHARGES [AED] FOR LOSS OR DAMAGE TO CARDS OR BOOKS

Replacement of lost or damaged Library Membership Card - 10 Dirhams

Charges for lost or damaged books:

Either:

Replacement value of book (inclusive of processing cost of 10 Dirhams).
OR

Replacement copy of lost book to be supplied by member (new book only, not used) - plus processing cost of 10 Dirhams.

NOTE:

Overdue charges will be applied to lost books.

No refunds will be given for lost books which are subsequently found.

MEMBERSHIP Borrower: A subscription is deemed to be a family membership. Books may be borrowed by the spouse or children of the person taking out a subscription. However, the primary subscriber (Member) is responsible for the care and return of all books borrowed under their membership. NOTE: Library membership cards are NOT transferrable and transfer of Library Cards to non-family persons will result in immediate cancellation of the card. RULES AND REGULATIONS A copy of the Library Rules and Regulations is provided to each member on joining the Library. For a copy of Rules and Regulations see the Regulations Page on this website or ask at the Library Circulation Desk for a printed copy.
REINVESTING IN THE LIBRARY The Old Library is a non-profit organisation which is staffed entirely by volunteers. ALL money raised from subscriptions, fines and secondhand book sales is reinvested in the Library to cover operating costs and the regular purchase of new books.
BOOK RETURN DROP BOX A book return 'drop box' is located inside the Dubai and Community Theatre and Arts Center reception area for the use of members who need to return their books outside Library hours. The box can be found around the corner immediately to the right of, and behind,the reception desk. Art Center Reception hours are: Saturday to Thursday - 9 am to 10 pm and Friday 2 pm to 10 pm
